Confidence

Welcome...

This is intended to be a place to store, share, and discuss thoughts about what lives that claim to follow Christ should look like. I entitled this blogspot "Simplified Christianity" because I feel strongly that so many people have tried to create a Christianity that is so diluted, convoluted, and confused that they cannot seem to locate the person God has called them to be in Scripture. I know for a fact that I do not have the answers to every single question, but I also know for a fact that God is not the author of confusion, so I make contact with His Word often to find exactly what it is He expects and then I try to do that. See? Isn't that simple? I hope you will be active participant in this blog and will be encouraged by it... Feel free to contact me in the comments or by email at srcbtwright@gmail.com

Now on to today's topic:

"Confidence"

Read 1 John 2:28-3:10

What do you see? Simplicity? Definitely! John writes about our need to be confident in knowing who it is we serve and how we can look more like Him... v. 28-29 "And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him." It is imperative that we, as followers of Jesus Christ, look like Jesus Christ. When we understand the love that God has for us (3:1-2), and we understand what sin leads to (3:4-6), then we begin to see a clear picture of what is intended for us.

"The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." (3:8b) This is equal parts startling and encouraging... Our Father in Heaven came down in the form of Jesus Christ, the Son, to eradicate and do away with the devil and his works. This tells me that we serve a God who has more power than we can imagine and is willing to use that power to help us avoid eternal punishment... How can that not give me confidence? If I am striving to do the will of my God as outlined in His Word, I should live a life full of confidence, not arrogance because it is not my abilities that I boast in, but rather confidence that God is a keeper of His Word.

"But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls." (Hebrews 10:39)

"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12:28-29)

I pray these thoughts encourage you... Feel free to comment or email...

Simple Kindness

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop In some ways, the culture and society our children are growing up in is more sensitive and more aware of the need to be kind. Our social media pages and airwaves are filled with messages of acceptance, tolerance, and the pressing need for a lack of passing judgment. However, in other ways, it appears our culture and our society has become even less drawn to the actions of being kind. Words impressed on a cool background that say how we should be kind are good to put on your desktop or as the lock screen of a phone, but do those words grow into any form of action? Many teenagers are confronted on a daily basis by bullies (both physically and by cyber means) whose intentions are to crumble and break apart any foundation of confidence that has been built. Many young children are confronted on a daily basis by bullies in their school who are desiring some type of "pecking order" and therefore will atte

Simple Silence

Silence… It can be the most uncomfortable of moments and yet can provide you with the greatest opportunity for growth Silence… It can create the most awkward of situations and yet can provide you with the truest sense of peace you will ever know Silence… It can destroy a relationship and yet can open the door for God to heal the brokenness Silence… It can give a sense of rejection and yet can also create a sense of belonging Habakkuk 2:18-20 “What profit is an idol when its maker has shaped it, a metal image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation when he makes speechless idols! Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it. But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.” Silence… before the Lord Almighty… Silence… in honor of His power and might… Silence in awe of His glory… But what do w

Ephesians 1 - Be Grateful

Ephesians 1 "1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. {A} In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ , according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 {B} In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time,
